Baroda or Varodara meant “stomach or heart of banyan tree” in Sanskrit. It was under the Gaekwads of Maratha Confederacy from 1721 to 1949. Baroda state history suggests that it was famous centre of Jainism in the 5th and 6th Century. Kadi, Baroda, Navsari, Amreli, Okhamadal and Kodinar belonged to the Baroda princely state.
